Arts and Crafts Venues near Black Pig Lodge

There are plenty of places where you can experience Irish Arts and Crafts within easy reach of Black Pig Lodge. Here is a small selection:

1. The Leitrim Design House, Carrick on Shannon (1 hr drive)

   
   The Leitrim Design House is an award-winning centre of excellence and is a leading outlet for Irish craft and design. Housed in The Dock, a 19th century Courthouse building in Carrick on Shannon, The Leitrim Design House is a vibrant establishment, giving you the opportunity to support Ireland’s creative industries. Over 250 makers, working in ceramics, glass, paper, wood, textiles, metal and jewellery, have their work showcased here. They also support Irish artists with regular exhibitions of paintings on the ArtWall, housed within the shop. Paul had an exhibition of his paintings here in late summer 2024.
   
   

2. The Dock Carrick on Shannon (1 hr drive)

   
   

   The Dock is housed in the beautiful 19th Century former Courthouse building, overlooking the majestic River Shannon in the county town of Carrick on Shannon. The building has been sensitively restored into an integrated centre for the arts. It now includes a 100+ seat performance space, three art galleries, artists’ studios, an arts education room and it is home to The Leitrim Design House. The Dock offers something for everyone, with an interesting programme of contemporary art exhibitions and a vibrant year-round theatre programme that spans drama, music, dance, comedy and performance art. The Jury Room Café is open daily and serves a range of delicious cakes, scones, teas and coffees.       
                          

3. The Island Theatre and Solas Art Gallery, Ballinamore (1 hr drive)

   
   

   The Island Theatre is a state-of-the-art Performance Venue located in Ballinamore, Co Leitrim. It seats up to 241 people for stage performances and film screenings and has space for community and social functions as well as music, dance and drama performances. The Solas Art Gallery is housed within the theatre building and offers frequent group and solo exhibitions. Paul and Elspeth have both exhibited paintings and photography in this gallery which caters for artists from beginner to those more well established.
   
   

4. Donegal Craft Village, Lurganboy, Donegal Town (45 min drive)

   
   

   Situated just 2km from Donegal Town, Donegal Craft Village is a collection of artists’ studios including glassmaking, painting, jewellery, printmaking and ceramics. The craft village is also home to the Aroma Coffee Shop and mini-bakery.  
   
   

5. Made In Sligo, Sligo (45 min drive)

   
   ‘Made In Sligo’ is a local craftworkers’ collective and retail establishment which showcases their creations and is another excellent place to pick up a unique souvenir of your trip to the west coast of Ireland. The craft displayed here includes glasswork, ceramics, woodwork, textiles, jewellery and basket-making.
